If it’s important to you you’ll make it happen. If not, you’ll make an excuse.

Study abroad is an opportunity that has been part of my plan long before I decided to attend college. In high school I was president of the Ambassador’s club and made friends with many foreign exchange students. I am infatuated with people and perspectives different from my own. Full immersion in a culture completely different than what I am used to will be an overwhelmingly stimulating experience. Salve Regina has made the process easy for me. Any reason not to study abroad is an excuse. There are no excuses that could outweigh the reward of this experience. I feel excited about every aspect of this upcoming semester abroad. I have always considered myself an independent person, but that claim is not valid without a real experience of being on my own. That is what I am most excited for. It may not be obvious while in Barcelona, but I know I will come back a changed person. This decision to study abroad is the first time I really feel like I am in the driver’s seat of my own life. That is a major part of growth and being an adult. The decision to take control of your life can go one of two ways. I will always choose the unconventional root because I want to delve into the unknown. The fact that I fear the unknown is exactly the reason I will chase it. It is human nature to live in a state of paralysis and I will do anything to avoid that. If we were meant to stay in one place all of the time we would have roots instead of legs. Travel is the best classroom that the world has to offer and I will take full advantage of that. I look forward to the connections I will make while abroad and expanding further on what I have to offer to the world.  I feel extremely privileged to be able to study abroad.
