During my first official week in Ireland, I of course had to visit the popular Blarney Castle and Gardens. What I thought was going to be a simple castle that housed the Blarney Stone was actually one of the most marvelous scenes I could imagine. Upon entering the grounds, I was instantly amazed by how beautiful and green the grass was! I know I shouldn’t be surprised, because it makes sense that a country with so much rain would have super green grass. However, I was still in awe of how stunning it was.

The Blarney Castle itself was fun to see and explore, although it didn’t have much besides the Blarney Stone itself. Simply getting to the stone, however, was a journey in and of itself, as the castle still houses the steep stone steps that were trekked upon hundreds of years ago. Though I had a death grip on the rope alongside the steps the entire way up, the view was worth it immediately. When faced with the big decision, I ultimately opted not to kiss the stone…controversial I know! The idea of being upside down and kissing a dirty rock that millions of other mouths have also touched was just not something that seemed enticing if I am being honest.

While everyone talks about the Blarney Stone, I have yet to hear proper commotion about the gardens on the property! Surrounding the castle is a path that leads to various gardens, a lake, waterfalls, a cave, and other whimsical attractions you would expect from a centuries old Castle property. I could honestly spend the entire day just walking around the paths and the views would never get old. A perfect 10/10 experience to get to know Ireland and I definitely look forward to exploring more of this beautiful country.
