So, every weekend many of the students take trips to outside of San José, naturally. Last weekend a small group of us went to Jaco Beach with my Mamatica and her friend Sophie. For about $100 we spend the weekend in a small house with a pool and within walking distance from the beach. Going out in Jaco is expensive and can be up to $20 a plate depending where you go. So, Mamatica offered to make us breakfast, lunch, and dinner if we gave her the money. It practically cut our costs in half!
Jaco is more of a tourist area it basically consists of a long strip of shops and bars, but the beach is beautiful. You can rent a surfboard for $10 for the day! The waves are crazy thought, so unless your a pro, I definitely would recommend practicing in some calmer water. Even my tico friend, CoCo, couldn’t catch one! We also caught a bus up to Carara National Park, a conserved area of transitional rainforest where the dry forests of the north meet the wet forests of the south. The perfect recipe for awesome biodiversity! While walking on the trail with our awesome guide, Victor, we saw parquets, poisonous tree frogs, various flora and fauna, and much more! Also, as soon as we got into the rainforest it started the downpour and it only stopped after we cleared our of the rainforest. Well, guess we got the real experience of what being in a rainforest is like!
Overall, it was the perfect weekend to start off my study abroad experience.
P.S. Last night at dinner, I was actively participating in the spanish conversation at dinner last night y Fui muy emocionada!
