5 Days Till Florence

I can’t believe I have less than a week until I leave for Florence, Italy!

This adventure has been in the planning stages for months and months, so it’s crazy to think that by this time next week I will have moved into an apartment right off the Arno River, surrounded by Renaissance art and Italian culture!

I ultimately decided to study abroad in Florence after being indecisive for months and realizing I was running out of time to make a decision. I purposely narrowed my choices to countries I have never visited before, which made me even more excited to live and learn abroad. I actually ended up getting the paperwork to go to Germany, and had barely written my name on the top before deciding to go to Italy instead. In the end, I just got a feeling that Florence would be the perfect city for me – filled with amazing art, architecture, food, and culture. I’m a city girl at heart, but I was also in search of a place that was welcoming and walkable that I could call home for the next four months – and I feel Florence offers all that, and then some.

I chose to go to Florence through the API program this spring because I wanted a good support system while I would be so far away from home. It was also important during my research that I made sure the courses I needed to take would be available wherever I went. Thankfully, I got into all the courses I needed to complete this semester: Italian, philosophy, art history, and global business. With API, I also already have weekend trips planned and paid for to go to Rome, Venice, Cinque Terre, and Tuscany, and I’m so excited for any other trips and experiences that will be accessible to me while abroad. Everything seems like its falling into place nicely, but keep your fingers crossed for me because no one is more familiar with Murphy’s law quite like Michelle Murphy.

With all this being said, I still have plenty to do before I fly out on Saturday night. Until then, I’ll be packing and counting down the days until my adventure beings!

Thanks for reading,

Michelle
