Study Abroad Senior Year

Let’s be honest – thinking about studying abroad seems a little scary. It’s even scarier when you’re thinking about going abroad your senior year. Senior year is a really stressful time, and it’s when you have to take the most important classes, such as thesis or capstone. Most seniors who study abroad will go abroad during their fall semester. I decided to go abroad my spring semester (mostly because I needed to take capstone in the fall). When the date to fly out to Spain was coming closer, I realized that I would be spending my very last semester at a place I had never been to, with no one who I knew waiting for me on the other side. I’m not exactly a fan of huge changes, after all, I’m a born and raised Rhode Islander, and I went to college in Rhode Island, so I’ve always been close to home. But to make the long story short, I have absolutely no regrets.

With the program that I picked, I was able to come back to Newport on time to be able to participate in Senior Week, and I was able to cross the stage with the rest of my class. As cheesy as it may sound, Barcelona became my second home, and all the friends I made abroad became connections I will cherish for life. So if you ever have the opportunity to go abroad (including senior year) then you should do it! While it can be daunting since soon after you’ll be going through big life changes. If you’re on track to graduating and have completed all necessary courses, there’s not much stopping you from studying abroad during your senior year. Study abroad truly is an experience you will never forget. It’s been a little over two months since I’ve been back, and I really do miss living and exploring Barcelona. It’s an experience I’ll always be grateful for!
