To be completely honest, the past few weeks have been the hardest weeks of my life. From saying goodbye to my loved ones to navigating a new city, nothing has been easy. If I could go back in time and decide not to study abroad, I would. Time machines do not exist though, so here I am in Milan! While I do not love a lot about Milan, one thing I do love is that it is a relatively central location so traveling to other places is super easy! Recently, my friends and I went to Genoa or Genova as the locals call it. We spent 3 days there and I can honestly say it was one of the best weekends of my life.
One of my friends from high school works there and he was kind enough to host us and tour us around. With the help of his Italian friends, we saw so many hidden gems. My personal favorite was a little fishing village called Boccadasse. We spent hours there sitting on the shore admiring the colorful homes and beautiful sea. It honestly reminded me of Newport, which in my current homesick state, I really appreciated. They also took us to Portofino and Nervi. They too were pretty and coastal. We ended each night roaming the streets downtown near Christopher Columbus’ house and the Piazza De Ferrari.
Anyways, if you are visiting Italy and want to go somewhere with a Salve-esc vibe I would highly recommend Genoa. Our trip was the perfect blend of fun, beautiful, and historic, and I am sure yours would be too!
