Bonjour mes amis!
If there is one thing you should plan for when going to Lyon, it’s the incredible food. Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France, meaning it quite literally has the best food ever! I’ve been astounded at every restaurant, café, and bakery I’ve been to. In one of my classes, we recently discussed how lyonnaise food has impacted French culture as a whole. Did you know the chef in the movie Ratatouille was based on the famous lyonnaise chef, Paul Bocuse? He is credited with the creation of “nouvelle cuisine” (literally meaning new cuisine) that focused on innovating dishes and serving them in an extremely fine dining setting. Bocuse also created the Meilleur Ouvrier de France (best worker of France) competition. Hundreds of bakeries, cheese shops, restaurants and other catering services compete each year in hopes to be crowned the best in their field. My friends and I found a bakery that won called Maison Rollancy and WOW. They served the best croissants and pistachio cakes I’ve ever had, which were surprisingly unexpensive. If you come to Lyon, you absolutely have to try it out. I’ve attached just some of my favorite meals I’ve had here so far. If you’re a foodie like me, Lyon is the place for you.
Au Revoir,
Ava L
